Abraham Eapen & his wife Mercy were part of India Campus Crusade for Christ for more than 3 decades serving in different parts of India. During these years, he has been inspired to penn down lyrics to a lot of malayalam songs that have been composed, recorded and performed by the band “Heartbeats”. “Sarveshwara” is one of his best works and has received a lot of recognition. For the longest time, not many knew him as a song-writer but God has used his lyrics to bless the hearts of many.
In 2013, Abraham was diagnosed with NH Lymphoma and had to undergo chemotherapy and radiation. By God’s grace he recovered well and returned to normalcy by early 2014. Unexpectedly, he had a relapse in late 2015.
After the relapse occurred, he was asked to go through 6 cycles of chemotherapy. His doctors were amazed at the results after 3 cycles. There was a significant improvement in his health and everyone’s hope was strengthened. Unfortunately, he developed an aggressive cough and his lungs were severely affected. He couldn’t complete the last cycle of chemo and was taken home on May 27 after more than a week of being in the hospital under observation and intense treatment. On the evening of May 28, surrounded by his loved ones, in the comfort of his bedroom, he breathed his last. His mortal remains were buried on June 1 in Bangalore. While the turn of events was too quick to decipher and the road ahead for the family is rough, the legacy that Mr. Eapen left behind is hard to contain in words. An epitome of faith, Mr. Eapen lived a selfless life, worthy of God’s calling upon him. He was filled with love for God, people and was always sacrificial.
